Advocacy, Industry, and the Student Experience at IU’s School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI

In my role as Alumni Chair, I leverage my experience as a student to improve outcomes for current undergrads. My journey as a student not only of the School of Informatics (MAS ‘18) but also the Herron School of Art and Design (Photography ‘18) inform my view of the student experience and best practices for designing programming for students of color.

My experience with this working group has allowed me to help develop tools for students that improve accessibility and inclusion. One of these endeavors, referred initially to as “under the office door”, served as an anonymous portal for students to report concerning behavior or policies to appropriate channels. Aside from seeking an improved approach to student concerns, being able to advocate for students’ concerns is something that inspires me.
